Warm Audio WA87 – Review and Shootout

Warm Audio WA87

Its been a Warm Christmas as Warm Audio releases their most expensive gears so far; the WA87 Condenser Microphone and the WA412 4-channel microphone preamp. The WA87 Condenser Microphone is Warm Audio’s first microphone.

The classic ’87 microphone is definitely one of the most popular large diaphragm microphones in the industry. Warm Audio has closely followed the early circuit designs from nearly half a century to give it a classic touch. The idea was to give a classic and warm sound produced by the early commercial microphones and most of all, make it affordable.

Warm Audio has been around manufacturing some incredible analog gear at a very neat price point without compromising on the classic tone, warmth and quality. Warm Audio has kept in mind the high quality of components while creating the WA87. The WA87 features premium components such as Fairchild FETs, Tantalum, Polystyrene, and WIMA film capacitors, and is rounded off with a Cinemag USA output transformer.  The WA-87 proudly uses our own Lens Kondensator custom reproduction of the classic K-87 dual backplate/dual diaphragm capsule, as found in early ‘87 mics.

We thought we will do a Microphone Shootout with the original classic and test it out. Lets go !

Verdict :

  • The WA87 is worth every penny, making it an affordable microphone for both amateurs and professionals.
  • Bringing the classic sound to your studio has become very easy with all the Warm Audio products and this ones been a real winner.
  • The warmth and clarity makes the WA87 a versatile microphone for any Audio source. We also used it as a Kick Mic and the results were mesmerizing.
  • Warm Audio has done it again guys.

  1. Thanks so much for doing this review!

Is there any chance you can provide the source audio files? I’m hearing an increased upper mid on the WA87 as well as more room sound. I’d like to load the files into my DAW and play with the EQ to see if the increased upper mid is bringing out the room, or if the U87 has a tighter polar pattern.

    1. Hello,

Thank you for connecting with us. I am afraid if we d be able to provide you with that due to our company policy. But I can provide you with some samples if you need.
